Effect of Rigid Vegetation Arrangement on the Mixed Layer of Curved Channel Flow

Curved channels and aquatic vegetation are commonly present in the riverine environment. In this study, effects of density distribution on hydrodynamic characteristics a mixed layer developed over 180-degree curved channel were investigated through flume experiments. Wooden sticks used to simulate rigid distributed along half side channel, 200 Hz acoustic Doppler velocimeter (ADV) was employed measure three-dimensional instantaneous velocity at five selected cross sections channel. Experimental results show that covering significantly affects structure flow, unequal resistance induces K-H instability non-vegetation interface, resulting standard hyperbolic tangent function streamwise lateral direction. The influence curve position turbulence kinetic energy is far greater than distribution. peak value turbulent comprehensively affected by distribution, interface changed different combined effect partly covered increases mixing between water bodies, enhancing energy, concave bank plays more significant role. For bursting, inward outward interactions mainly bursting events area, while ejections sweeps dominant area. However, critical condition initiate large-scale coherent (LSS) flexible need be further studied future.
